CBT for Insomnia Half Day Intensive

This half day intensive is intended for people who want to improve the quality and increase the amount of sleep they get each night. It is appropriate for individuals with a long history of sleep problems, and for those with a more recent onset. It also is appropriate both for people who suffer from insomnia alone, and for those who have insomnia as part of another disorder (such as depression, bipolar disorder, chronic pain, or an anxiety disorder). Participants will learn basic facts about "normal" sleep and about the various forms of insomnia, including factors that cause and maintain sleep disorders. Next, participants will be introduced to cognitive behavioral techniques that have been shown in research to significantly improve sleep. These techniques include: (1) sleep hygiene principles; (2) stimulus control guidelines; (3) a sleep restriction program; and, (4) cognitive strategies. Participants are encouraged to complete a pre-seminar assessment battery, and the data collected will be used to direct participants to specific techniques that are likely to work for them. Participants will leave the seminar with a concrete plan for modifying sleep-related behaviors and attitudes/beliefs.

I just wanted to thank you for the sleep clinic. Although I still have some external influences to work on (how do you train a cat?), my internal attitude changes have resulted in amazing improvements. I feel so much better! I have also started to use more cognitive behavior exercises in other areas of my life and look forward to successes there as well. –Former Sleep Clinic Participant
